Manufactured by Colt
Microdot Technology by Dot Com
Failure level 00.03 (The Widowmaker only fails on
1-3 on D10 if a previous 00 has been
rolled).
Controlled by Micro-dot processor located within armored
casing
Weight 5 kilos (fully loaded)
A replacement for the outdated Lawrod, the
Colt 'Widowmaker' 3000 is a shotgun/grenade launcher hybrid
modeled on earlier riot control weapons. The Widowmaker is designed as a rapid assault weapon for war and mass unrest situations
and is not in general issue. In addition to the Justice Dept. specific
weapon, Colt also manufactures a version for export purposes. This version
is sold with a rapid-fire suppressor, and will not fire Napalm or High-Explosive shells, though a skilled Tech may be able to re-instate these
capabilities. Although the Widowmaker is not approved for
sale in MC-1, many of these weapons have found their way into the hands of the
criminal element and incidents featuring the weapon are
on the rise.
Magazine
The Widowmaker ammunition system has been designed for maximum
flexibility and allows for three storage and delivery methods. The clip
is an easily transportable and flexible option (2 round reloading time)
which holds 20 rounds of a single ammunition type. The drum clip, somewhat
larger and slower to reload (4 round reloading time), incorporates three
chambers each holding 20 rounds of a single ammunition type. Finally, the
weapon may be belt-fed, allowing it to function as a small-unit support
weapon.
Ammunition Options
| Scatter
(SK) |
| Max Range |
100m |
| Reloading |
2 Actions |
| Special Effect |
Area Burst (5m
diameter) |
The Widowmaker's primary ammunition type, the Scatter round has been
designed for maximum crowd supression capability. Tests have shown
that this round on rapid-fire is able to decimate a 100 person gathering in
0.6 seconds.
| General
Purpose aka Solid (GP) |
| Max Range |
250m |
| Reloading |
2 Actions |
| Special Effect |
+1 Effect |
General Purpose, or Solid, ammunition is use primarily to disable
vehicles, clear obstacles and in a fire-support and suppression role.
The round incorporates an armour-defeating inner core and reduces target
armour effectiveness by 25%.
| High-Explosive
(HE) |
| Max Range |
150m |
| Reloading |
2 Actions |
| Special Effect |
+2 Effect, Area Burst
(5m diameter) |
The HE shell is designed to deliver an area-burst explosion. This burst
has a diameter of 5 meters, and adds a +2 Modifier to the weapon's Effect.
| Napalm
aka Incendiary (NP) |
| Max Range |
150m |
| Reloading |
2 Actions |
| Special Effect |
Burning, Area Burst (5m
diameter) |
Napalm shots explode, to shower
the area targets with an unstable and inflammable chemical. The shot hits with a normal Effect, but there is then
a 90% chance that the target will catch fire. These flames will cause an
extra +1 to the Effect in that Combat Round, and then +3 for each
subsequent Round, until the flames are put out.
| Gas
(GS - Stumm, Tranq and Smoke options) |
| Max Range |
200m |
| Reloading |
2 Actions |
| Special Effect |
Area Burst (10m
diameter) |
Gas shells carry a payload of liquefied gas, which vaporizes rapidly on
impact. Most gas rounds carry Stumm or Tranq gas for rapid perp
suppression, or Smoke (with a laser and infra-red diffusing element) for
wartime situations. The round may be modified to carry other gas payloads
by a skilled tech.
Additional Features
Target Acquisition Sensor
The Widomaker is equipped with a dedicated motion sensor, which sweeps
the area in a 90 degree arc in front of the weapon and emits a bleeping
tone in the Judges helmet when movement is detected. The closer the
crosshairs of the weapon are to the target, the faster the bleeps. When
the weapon is directly aimed at a target, the bleeping becomes a single
continuous tone. The sensor is capable of detecting movement through
walls and armour plating, and has an effective detection range of 100
meters. The weapon has a 50% chance of detecting a moving target, plus
the Judge's Street skill. Once the Judge has acquired his target, he must
roll a CS with a -10% penalty to hit it.
Infra-Red Sight
The Widowmaker has IR imaging capability built-in to its through-barrel
targeting system, allowing the Judge to observe in darkness as though it
were normal daylight.
Rapid-Fire Mode
The Colt 3000 may be switched to full-auto "Rapid Fire" mode, transforming
it into an excellent support weapon. For each trigger pull, rapid fire
will fire 6 rounds of a single ammunition type. This may be directed at a
single target for +2 effect, or used to sweep up to a 8m area at normal
effect. The Judge must aim as normal, then make an unmodified CS roll (no
aiming bonus or called shots, due to the slight recoil). For hits on a
single target, roll damage as normal with a +2 effect modifier. For area
fire roll 1D6: this is the number of rounds that actually hit targets,
divide the rounds among the relevant targets and roll damage normally for
each round that hit. Due to several unfortunate accidents in the past,
the Widowmaker has been modified to not rapid-fire Hi-Ex or Napalm shells,
though this capability may be re-instated by MAC via remote control
during wartime situations.
Micro-Dot Computer
Utilising the same design as the Lawgiver Mk.11, the Widowmaker's many
functions are controlled by a tiny computer within its chassis. Shortly
after its introduction, it was revealed that this processor could be
switched off remotely. Though the criminal behind this has now been
brought to Justice, the processor does remain a weakness.
The computer controls all weapon functions and encodes each round fired with ballistic
information and the wielder's identity imprint. This data, along with
ammunition usage statistics, is regularly communicated to MAC via a UHF
transceiver for SJS review.
Voice Control
The Windowmaker is equipped with a voice control unit, allowing the Judge
to select the shell type either by vocal command or by fire selector
switch. When the weapon receives a vocal command from the Judge, it
signals compliance to the helmet comm unit with a low tone. Should the
selected shell no longer be available, the gun will inform the Judge
with a synthetic voice.
Colt 3000 Accessories
Grapple Deployment System
The GDS option consists of a clip-on cylinder, containing 500m of high
tensile cable, and a rocket-assigned grapple. The grapple unit attaches to
the weapon's barrel and interfaces with the targeting system to produce a
highly maneuverable missile. Once locked on a fixed target the grapple has
a 95% chance of achieving its objective and using sophisticated
boring and grip technology to attach itself. The cable cylinder includes a small winch
capable of bearing approximately 350kg, and attaches easily to any standard
rapid-assault harness or utility belt.
Self-Destruct Charge
Justice Dept. specific Widowmakers are protected from any misuse by the
inclusion of an inbuilt hand-print sensor. A Widowmaker can only be used by
the Judge whose print is registered in the gun's computer; should anyone
else try and use it, the gun will immediately explode, causing a hit to the arm
holding the gun, with a +2 Effect Modifier. This does, of course, also mean
that other Judges may not use a fellow Judge's weapon either, without first
disabling the self-destruct charge (requiring a Tech Skill roll and one full
Combat Round), or by having MAC remotely authorise use of the weapon.
Tripod
For use as a support weapon, a telescoping tripod may be attached to the
Widowmaker. The tripod uses stablising tech to absorb recoil, and enables
the use of rapid-fire with standard aiming bonuses.
